Silvio è un ragazzo giovane e motivato. Il progetto alla base del suo operato era quello di recuperare un piccolo borgo con i suoi terreni abbandonati e in disuso per produrre cibo sano grazie ad un suolo in salute come uno dei suoi piccoli appezzamenti che adesso, dopo il suo intervento, produce 100 kg di more all'anno oltre a mirtilli e lamponi. La produzione dei piccoli frutti e di ortaggi verrà affiancata alla futura creazione di un piccolo albergo rurale che nel tempo dovrebbe nascere nello stesso piccolissimo borgo dove attualmente Silvio abita e ha il laboratorio di trasformazione. Si tratta di un vecchio edificio del 900 che è stato ristrutturato in più fasi e nel quale Silvio ha investito molto per salvaguardare il risparmio energetico che colloca la sua casa in classe A: quindi ha scelto per il "recupero" e non per una nuova costruzione.
Silvio is a young and motivated guy. His project behind his work was to recover a very small village with its abandoned and disused land to produce healthy food thanks to a healthy soil for instance like one of its small soil plots that now, after his intervention, produces 100 kg of blackberries per year but also blueberries and raspberries. The production of small fruits and some vegetables will be accompanied by the future creation of a small rural hotel which over time should be born in the same tiny village where Silvio currently lives and where he has the transformation laboratory. It is an old building from the 1900s that has been renovated in several phases and in which Silvio has invested heavily to safeguard the energy savings that place his house in energy class A: therefore he has chosen for the "recovery" and not for a new construction.

Gli appezzamenti di terreno di Silvio sono abbastanza distanti tra loro e ciò rende il suo lavoro maggiormente difficile nella gestione quotidiana della lavorazione delle coltivazioni; ad esempio il campo dove ha gli ortaggi è a 300 metri circa da quello dei piccoli frutti e questo perchè in montagna il frazionamento che subivano continuamente i terreni si acuiva all'aumentare delle suddivisioni ereditarie.
"Nel campo dove coltivo gli ortaggi quest'anno ho creato una consociazione tra zucchine e fagioli per cui le piante si aiutano tra loro anche nel contrastare naturalmente i comuni aggressori; ad esempio questa è stata un'annata in cui le zucchine non sono state colpite da un fungo aggressivo come l'oidio mentre la pianta di topinambur vicino al campo di zucchine è stata colpita". Non è magia è più semplicemente permettere alla natura di fare il proprio corso. Da tempo abbiamo perso il contatto con la natura che invece prima avevamo e questo a causa della nostra presunzione nel credere di essere i soli esseri viventi intelligenti senza invece ricordarci che il terreno è un sistema altrettanto vivente e organizzato in maniera molto più intelligente e completo di noi esseri umani che esistiamo in quanto parte di quel mondo naturale; semmai dovremmo semplicemente preservarlo e dirigerlo ascoltandolo. Ecco, questo è quello che secondo me è il cuore del valore di un progetto come quello di Silvio; il benessere del suolo e del cibo è paragonabile al benessere del "terreno comunitario" intendo quel "terreno" di socialità dove cresce il rapporto tra le persone e i loro progetti territoriali a difesa del suolo e delle comunità.
Silvio's soil plots of land are quite distant from each other and this makes his job more difficult in the daily management of the cultivation of crops; for example the field where it has the vegetables it's about 300 meters far from that of the small fruits but this depends on the typical fragmentation of the land that in the mountains increased with the increase of hereditary subdivisions. "In the field where I grow vegetables, this year I created an intercropping between courgettes and beans so that the plants also help themselves in naturally fighting common aggressors; for example, this year the courgettes were not affected by an aggressive fungus like the powdery mildew while the Jerusalem artichoke plant next to it was affected by the same bad fungus aggressive". It's not magic it's simply to allow nature to take its course. We have long since lost contact with the ecosystem due to our presumption; we believe we are the only intelligent living being without instead remembering that the soil is a system organized in a much more intelligent way than we human beings that we should simply direct it by listening to it. Here, this is what in my opinion is the heart of the value of a project like Silvio's. The wellbeing of soil and food it's comparable the wellbeing of the "community ground" i mean that "ground" of sociality where grows up the relationship between people and their territorial projects to defense the soil and the communities
"Anche l'acqua del corso del fiume che si trova più in alto, viene convogliata in maniera intelligente tramite una serie di canali che la dirige e che la fa arrivare fino al mio piccolo borgo; tramite l'apertura o la chiusura di paratie che deviano il corso d'acqua, grazie alla pendenza del terreno le condotte portano l'acqua necessaria verso valle. Una soluzione complicata e lunga rispetto al fatto di avere l'acqua subito disponibile e immagazzinata sul campo, come succede a me, ma indubbiamente per contrastare i cambiamenti climatici che sempre più provocano pioggie improvvise e bombe d'acqua. La rete di canali potrà sicuramente favorire il drenaggio della vasta quantità di acqua che improvvisamente e in poco tempo siamo ormai abituati a vedere piovere"
"The water of the river that is higher up, is conveyed in an intelligent way through a series of water channels that convey it and that makes it reach my small village through the opening or closing of bulkheads that divert the watercourse and thanks to the slope of the land the necessary water reach the valley. A complicated and time-consuming solution compared to having water stored in the field, as happens to me, but undoubtedly to counteract the climatic changes that increasingly cause sudden rains and water bombs, the network of canals will certainly favor the drainage of the vast amount of water that in a short time we are now used to seeing raining"
Nel laboratorio costruito sotto casa Silvio lavora ispirandosi alle tecniche semplici e casalinghe dei nostri nonni; cuoce in un classico pentolone poco per volta in maniera da non stressare gli alimenti che quindi cuociono per poco tempo e in minor quantità per cui le proprietà organolettiche rimangono più presenti e il risultato è maggiormente corposo e saporito oltre che sano; per ora crea composte sia di frutta che di cipolle ideale da abbinare ai formaggi e in collaborazione con un altro laboratorio fa preparare vari tipi di liquori, caramelle, verdure in agrodolce. La difficoltà sta nel portare avanti tutto da solo; il che significa che deve quotidianamente pensare all'attività nei campi e alla produzione del laboratorio, per cui "se mi capita un imprevisto... Bisogna tirarsi su le maniche e improvvisare ma risolvere il problema"
In the laboratory built under the house, Silvio works inspired by the simple and homely techniques of our grandparents; he cooks fruits using a classic pot a little at a time so as not to stress the food, so cooking fruits for a short time and in smaller quantities the organoleptic properties remain more lively and the result is more full-bodied, tasty and nourishing; for now he creates confitures of both fruit and onions ideal to combine with cheeses and in collaboration with another laboratory he prepares various types of liqueurs, candies, sweet and sour vegetables. The difficulty lies in carrying out everything alone; which means that every day he has to think about the activities in the fields and the production of the laboratory, so "if something unexpected happens to me ... I have to roll up my sleeves and improvise, anyway solving the problem"
La domanda lecita è: come mai un ragazzo poco più che ventenne e che ha studiato scienze e tecnologie forestali decide di salire in un borgo di montagna per coltivare alimenti sani e dare vita ad un progetto di recupero a lungo termine?
E' legittimo pensare che Silvio si comporti in maniera differente dallo scorrere comune delle cose; si potrebbe intendere che scappi da qualcosa o qualcuno oppure che voglia semplicemente andare controcorrente perchè è giovane senza molta esperienza. Ma che cos'è la normalità? Io credo che a fare le cose normalmente sia proprio questo ragazzo che è lassù per salvare un pezzo di territorio, di cultura, gesti, terreni, socialità, vita e sono fermamente convinto che avrebbe avuto altrettante possibilità di progetti maggiormente cauti e meno imprenditoriali, molto meno rischiosi e faticosi. Quindi io personalmente mi sono dato una risposta molto semplice. Ci sono persone che riempiono la loro vita di opinioni, idee punti di vista, politica e sono connesse al tessuto sociale esclusivamente dal punto di vista di chi non fa nulla per cambiare la realtà propria e degli altri che ha accanto; poi ci sono altre persone che fanno invece i fatti, quei gesti che comportano il coraggio di cambiare e di credere in un progetto perseguendone i risultati con fatica e con fermezza: sono quelli gli individui che affascinano, ispirano e ci indicano la strada. E' grazie ai fatti creati dalle persone come Silvio che tutti gli "opinionisti" possono continuare a cazzeggiare al bar parlando di dati ambientali, ricerche e tirando le somme della politica (la loro) ma senza iniziare a fare nulla per migliorare la propria qualità di vita e quella del prossimo; è invece grazie a giovani come lui, e ne sto conoscendo molti, che possiamo sperare di avere la fortuna che persone così si moltiplichino e in qualche modo "salvino" la terra che ormai non ce la fa più.
The legitimate question is: why does a boy in his early twenties who have just graduated in forestry sciences and techniques decide to go up to a mountain village to grow healthy food and start a long-term recovery project?
It is legitimate to think that Silvio behaves differently from the common flow of things; it could be said that he is running away from something or someone or that he simply wants to go against the tide because he is young without much experience. But what is normality? I believe that doing things normally is precisely this guy who is up there to save a piece of territory, of culture, gestures, land, sociality, life and I am firmly convinced that he would have had as many opportunities less entrepreneurial very much less risky and tiring. So I personally gave myself a very simple answer and this is it. There are people who fill their lives with opinions, ideas, points of view, politics and are connected to the social fabric exclusively from the point of view of those who complain doing nothing to change the reality around them; then there are other people who instead make the facts, those gestures that involve the courage to change and to believe in a project, pursuing its results with effort and firmness. Those are the individuals who fascinate, inspire and show the way. It's thanks to the facts created by people like Silvio that all the other pundits can continue to fool around at the bar talking about environmental data, research and summing up politics without starting to do anything to improve their quality of life; it is thanks to young people like him, and luckily I'm meeting so many of them, that we can hope to have the good fortune that they multiply and somehow saving the earth that can't take it anymore.
Vi lascio con una frase che sono sicuro Silvio ami particolarmente "Non falliscono le persone che provano a cambiare e non ci riescono, ma quelle che si lamentano sempre senza provare". Infatti Silvio ci ha provato, ci riesce e senza lamentarsi lavora duramente e con passione per riportare un piccolissimo borgo di montagna e la sua terra nuovamente alla vita: senza alcuna fretta e con determinazione.
I leave you with a sentence that I am sure that Silvio particularly loves "People who try to change and do not succeed do not fail, but the failers are those who always complain without trying". In fact, Silvio has tried, he succeeds and without complain he works hard and with passion to bring back to life a tiny mountain town and its land: without haste and with determination.
